Mrs. Mulvihill
I started my career in teaching here in Sioux City back in 1992 at West High School. After three years at the high school, I decided I liked the middle school just a little bit more. Every year I ask my students, "Who here hates math?" Unfortunately, about half in my regular math classes do raise their hands. By the end of the year I hope to have the students at least "tolerate" mathematics (if not love it like I do).
I am married, have two children (one at EHS and the other at EMS) and our dog Skittles (which the students will hear a lot about over the year). My son is visually impaired, but does not let his disability hold him back from anything. If your child has anything that I can help with in the classroom, please let me know.
I do not believe in "pop quizzes", my students will always know what we will be doing for the entire week. All assignments are listed for the week and all quizzes and tests are known ahead of time. My students are able to use notes on every single quiz and test during the quarter. However, on the quarter tests and Iowa Assessments, they will have to use only their brains and any posters I have up on the walls.
The grading system: 90's A, 80's B, 70's C, 60's D and anything lower is Failing. Homework is a very important part of mathematics, because if the student does not practice the concepts, they will not do well in the class. Homework is practice!! I do not give long assignments, but I do give assignments almost every day to get ready for the tests.
RETAKES may only be done IF the student has met with me to go over questions and homework. If the retake is worse, the student's grade will go down, so make sure you are ready for a retake (only 1 retake per quiz or test).
